As a service centre, TRYL
provides both processing and distribution services. The
companys business is categorized as Tolling business, based on
whether only processing services are provided on materials supplied and owned by customers
or as Distribution business, where a complete item, such as
cutto-length pickled or dry blanks, slit coils is supplied to the customer who uses
the item to make a specific product for a particular application.
Presently our competencies lies in HR
and CR Sheets and coils and Rebar Processing. The services can broadly
categorized into three major groups and are further segmented depending on the customers
service requirements.
TOLLING
In Tolling,
TRyl is responsible for only Processing related parameters controlled by its machines or
to compliance of agreed norms for the customer, as defined in the Technical Delivery
Conditions. The critical processing requirements are length tolerance, burr height, width
tolerance, shape I roll formed section variance, pickled surface quality, etc. TRyl is
also responsible for complying to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the
customer and Tata Ryerson. However, TRyl is not responsible for any steel metallurgy
related defects, steel property defects, Steel surface defects, inherent defects in steel
during its rolling and delays in On time delivery to end user arising out of delay in
receipt of the Raw Material( Steel Coils) from Tata Steel, due to schedule delays at Tata
Steel.
DISTRIBUTION
In Distribution,
Within the Distribution category, the business is categorized as
OE or Retail, based on whether the customer is serviced
directly, or through the Retail / Distribution network. In OE,there are sub-segments like
OEM distribution, and in Retail sub-segments like GC/GP retail distribution, CR retail
distribution, geographic segmentation etc. are there. TRyl assumes responsibility for
processing defects as well as for the quality of steel that it supplies and for timely
delivery of steel against agreed schedules. In OEM distribution, the customers specify the
grade of steel that they require and Tata Ryerson takes responsibility to supply them the
same grade of steel in the agreed cut to size condition. In retail distribution, TRyl
maintains stocks of material for feeding its retail chain and provide Value for money
products.

In Distribution, the
Steel Mills are the key suppliers and they play a very valuable role in the supply chain
as they are responsible for providing the correct quality of steel, its timely delivery to
TRyl, post- sales support and joint marketing support.
In Tolling, TRyl operates its
processing plants for Value Creation. In Tolling, the Steel suppliers play a major role as
the processing productivity, reliability & adherence to plans and evacuation of
finished goods are dependent on them. In processing the quality of the machine spares is
very critical for maintaining the quality of the product and its tolerances. The packaging
requirements are also very important Customer requirement and account for almost 30 % in
consumables in HR and upto 80 % in CR processing. For on time delivery of processed steel,
the Transporters play an important Value adding role. Since the entire operation is on SAP
ERP package linked to ALL India Tata Steel SAP network, it is critical to maintain the
real-time data availability in the network. This calls for strong support from IT related
service suppliers like Hughes Escorts for satellite connectivity, BSNL for lease line
maintenance and Tata Technologies for SAP maintenance.
REBAR PROCESSING
The first rebar cutting & bending
machines were manufactured after World War II, and specialized rebar processing plants
became the norm in developed countries with the construction boom of seventies and
eighties. Now, PROBAR, Tata Ryerson's ready-to-use processed reinforced
bars for projects, allows construction companies to achieve world-class project
efficiencies, by bringing this project solution to India for the very first time.
PROBAR is produced in
Tata Ryerson's new processing facility at Faridabad, using top-of-the line equipment from
Denmark & Korea, which accurately process stirrups and complex shapes in rebar
thickness ranging from 6mm-60mm.
